Functionalized lignophenol as a high-selectivity sorbent for precious metals

Biomass wastes need functional modification so as to use for the effective recovery of precious metals like platinum, palladium, or rhodium from acidic aqueous systems. Furthermore, high energy radiation ($$gamma$$ or electron beam) is being utilized for giving functional variation to various synthetic or bio-materials. Hence, in the present study, irradiation crosslinking of lignophenol with various functional monomers has been carried out. The influence of irradiation dose, temperature, and the type of functional monomer on the adsorption performance of modified lignophenol has been studied and the results were compared with the performance of chemically modified lignophenol.
