This report is the Proceedings of the International Symposium on Materials Testing Reactors hosted by Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA). The symposium was held on July 16 to 17, 2008, at the Oarai Research and Development Center of JAEA. This symposium was also held for the 40th anniversary ceremony of Japan Materials Testing Reactor (JMTR) from achieving its first criticality. The objective of the symposium is to exchange the information on current status, future plan and so on among each testing reactors for the purpose of mutual understanding. There were 138 participants from Argentina, Belgium, France, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Korea, the Russian Federation, Sweden, the United State, Vietnam and Japan. The symposium was divided into four technical sessions and three topical sessions. Technical sessions addressed the general topics of "status and future plan of materials testing reactors", "material development for research and testing reactors", "irradiation technology (including PIE technology)" and "utilization with materials testing reactors", and 21 presentations were made. Also the topical sessions addressed "establishment of strategic partnership", "management on re-operation work at reactor trouble" and "basic technology for neutron irradiation tests in MTRs", and panel discussion was made.
