原子力機構は、平成24年4月1日から、原子力科学研究所(原科研),核燃料サイクル工学研究所(核サ研)、及び大洗研究開発センター(大洗研)に、それぞれ福島技術開発特別チームを設置し、福島第一原子力発電所の廃止措置に向けた研究開発・技術開発を福島技術開発特別チームの下で一体的に実施している。原科研福島技術開発特別チームでは、使用済燃料プール燃料取り出しにかかわる研究開発、燃料デブリ取り出し準備にかかわる研究開発、及び放射性廃棄物処理・処分にかかわる研究開発において、個別プロジェクトにかかわる研究開発・技術開発に取り組んでいる。核燃料関連の研究開発、技術開発は、おもに事故進展解析技術の高度化による炉内状況の把握、模擬デブリを用いた特性の把握において実施している。

Japan Atomic Energy Agency set up Fukushima Project Teams at Nuclear Science Research Institute, Nuclear Fuel Cycle Engineering Laboratories, and Oarai Research and Development Center to conduct research and development towards decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plants on the 1st of April, 2012. Fukushima Project Team at Nuclear Science Research Institute is involved in specific research and development projects concerning the spent fuel pool countermeasures, preparation of fuel debris removal, and radioactive waste treatment and disposal. Among these specific research and development projects the accident development analysis and the assessment of simulated fuel debris characteristics are related to nuclear fuel materials research.
