Ferritic steel plates were installed in the JFT-2M vacuum vessel to conduct "the Advanced Material Tokamak Experiments (AMTEX)". A coating device with tri-methyl-bron(TMB)was developed to coat the ferritic steel surface with boron, since the ferritic steel is easy to rust and also has a property to absorb much impurity in the surface. The TMB gas used in the device was diluted with helium gas to 1% for ensuring workers themselves against the toxicity of the TMB. The uniformity and stability of the coated layer have been confirmed through sample tests with a microscope, whose samples had been set in the tokamak vacuum vessel. The coating thickness measured with X-ray photoelectron emission spectroscopy was roughly 130nm. In the plasma experiments after the boron coating, radiation loss in the plasma decreased to 1/3, and oxygen impurity also decreased to 1/10 compared to without the boron coating.

The experimental results show that there are two peaks in the g-r noise spectrum at 120 K and 67 K, respectively. The 120 K peak corresponds to experimental evidence for the existence of hard gap having width of 10.4 meV. We interpret the 67 K peak as evidence for Wigner lattice formation whose gap width is 5.8 meV.

A problem of the boronization was that hydrogen originating from hydride-decaborane diluted core deuterium plasmas. In order to minimize the number of conditioning tokamak discharges, boronization using deuterated-decaborane (BD) has been introduced recently. In order to investigate durability of the boronization effects, discharges with an identical condition were repeated. Boronization using 20 g of deuterated-decaborane could reduce a core oxygen content from 1.9% to only 1.3% in L-mode discharges with a neutral beam heating power of 4 MW. Boronization using 70 g of deuterated-decaborane reduced the core oxygen content from 2.2% to 0.5%. After the boronization using 70 g of deuterated-decaborane ( thickness of the Boron layer 135 nm ), the core oxygen content increased gradually from 0.5% to 1% in 400 shots.
