Using neutron scattering and ab initio calculations, we report here a mechanism of static local structure distortion combined with phonon-anharmonic-induced ultralow lattice thermal conductivity in -MgAgSb. Since the transverse acoustic phonons are almost fully scattered by the intrinsic distorted rocksalt sublattice in this compound, the heat is mainly transported by the longitudinal acoustic phonons. The ultralow thermal conductivity in -MgAgSb is attributed to its atomic dynamics being altered by the structure distortion, which presents a possible microscopic route to enhance the performance of similar thermoelectric materials.

In the framework of the French-Japanese agreement signed in 2014, CEA, AREVA NP, JAEA, and MHI/MFBR is jointly performing components design of ASTRID such as Decay Heat Removal Systems (DHRS). This paper is giving an update concerning ASTRID DHR strategy with description of reference architecture evolution and project objectives. In particular, new developments were made for DHR during normal shutdown and role of Ex-Vessel system. A special focus is made on design process of automatic shutter to hydraulically connect Hot Plenum and cold plenum to enhance primary vessel natural convection.

In the framework of the French-Japanese agreement signed in 2014, CEA, AREVA NP, JAEA, and MHI/MFBR is jointly performing components design of ASTRID such as Decay Heat Removal Systems (DHRS). This paper is giving highlights of ASTRID DHRS current strategy. Focus is made on operating temperature diversification for in-vessel heat exchanger as well as core catcher coolability by an original features such as heat exchanger located within reactor cold pool, whose design was taken over by Japan team since 2014.

A method to minimize the manufacturing error of the equilibrium-field coils has been established, aiming at the precise plasma shape/position control. A compact butt-joint has been successfully developed for the Central Solenoid, which allows an optimized utilization of the limited space for the Central Solenoid to extend the duration of the plasma pulse.

It has been applied to the KSTAR plasma in order to establish the plasma shape reconstruction with the high elongation of plasma shape and the large effect of eddy current flowing in the structure for the first time. Calculations have been performed to validate the plasma shape reconstruction in 2012 KSTAR experimental campaign. Comparison between the CCS calculation and non-magnetic measurements revealed that the CCS calculation can reconstruct the accurate plasma shape even with a small Ip. The application of CCS calculation to the KSTAR plasma and the validation results of the plasma shape reconstruction are reported.

Advances in thermal hydraulics have significantly improved the performance of operating reactors and are continuing in both experimental and computational areas for reactors under construction or ready for near-term deployment, and advanced Generation-IV reactors. As the computing power increases, the fine-scale multi-physics computational models, coupled with the systems analysis code, are expected to provide answers to many challenging problems in both operating and advanced reactor designs.
