First, the conditioning of RFQ III was conducted, and after 20 h of conditioning, RFQ III became very stable with a nominal peak power and duty factor of 400 kW and 1.5%, respectively. An off-line beam test was subsequently conducted before installation in the accelerator tunnel. The transmission, transverse emittance, and energy spread of the 50-mA negative hydrogen beam from RFQ III were measured and compared with simulation results. The experiment and simulation results showed good agreement; therefore, we conclude that the performance of RFQ III conforms to its design.

RFQ II was developed as a spare RFQ because the operating J-PARC RFQ has suffered from a sparking problem. First, the conditioning of RFQ II was carried out; after 50 h of conditioning, RFQ II became very stable with a nominal power and duty of 330 kW and 3%, respectively. Next the thermal properties were measured because the resonant frequency of RFQ II is tuned by changing the temperature of the cooling water. The frequency response was measured and compared to finite-element method simulation results, confirming that the simple two-dimensional model reproduces the experimental data well. The differences in the field distribution with changes in the rf loading and the cooling-water temperature were also measured, and no serious field distortion was observed. Therefore, we conclude that RFQ II can perform well as a high-power rf cavity.

Terfestatin A (TrfA), a novel auxin signaling inhibitor, was identified in a screen of . F40 extracts for inhibition of the expression of an auxin-inducible gene. However, the mode of action of TrfA has not been elucidated. To identify the active core structure, 25 derivatives of TrfA were synthesized and their inhibitory activities against auxin-inducible gene expression were evaluated. The structure-activity relationships revealed the essential active core structure of TrfA, 3-butoxy-4-methylbiphenyl-2,6-diol, which will lead to the design of biotin-tagged active TrfA.

Graphite structures are used as one of the HTTR core internal structures. Graphite structures have high heat resistant property but its mechanical strength degrades easily by oxidization. To prevent the oxidization of graphite structures, impurity concentrations in the coolant of helium are controlled strictly. The helium sampling system is installed to measure the impurity concentrations in the helium. At gas compressor in helium sampling system, seal-oil leak at rod seal mechanism was occurred. The causes are degradation of seal material and contaminant abrasion powder of grand-packing. As these countermeasure, material of seal material was changed and contaminant was decreased. As the result long term operation is enabled. Moreover, reliable data can be obtained and efficient impurity control is enabled due to renewal of data acquisition control computer of gas chromatograph mass spectrometer and improvement of liquid nitrogen trap.

Understanding radiation field is important to predict radiation dose rate in newly constructing buildings in an area widely contaminated by radioactive nuclei. Radiation dose rate at the site is not sufficient, and directional spectra of the radiations are important to consider the shielding effect of the building. Radiation directional spectra can be measured by scintillator partially shielded by lead collimators but the angle of view highly depends on the combination of the scintillator and the collimators. We adopts a method to measure the directional spectra by adopting 3 inch scintillator with placing a plate of lead collimator in front of the scintillator and subtract the values from the spectra measured without lead collimator. We simulates the optimal size of the lead collimator and found that the 15 cm diameter plate placing at 3 cm from the scintillator is the best for our purpose, 90 degree angle of view.

Understanding radiation field is important to predict radiation dose rate in newly constructing buildings in an area widely contaminated by radioactive nuclei. Directional spectra of the radiations are important to consider the shielding effect of the building. We adopts a method to measure the directional spectra by adopting a plate of lead collimator in front of the scintillator and subtract the values from the spectra measured without lead collimator. We investigated a possible weight saving detection system having sufficient detection efficiency. The investigation was carried out for the condition of the collimator radius ( = 10, 15, 20 cm) and the distance between collimator and detector ( = 1, 3, 5 cm). We found that three combinations satisfied the 90 field view and the detection efficiency became better with larger collimator radius. On the other hand, larger collimator radius indicate heavier detection system. Therefore, we developed an optimum detection system for field survey with the 15 cm diameter plate (10kg), the scintillator (3.4kg), and the folder (1.0kg).

The Chemical Processing Facility (CPF) has the concrete-shielded hot-cells using the mercury lamps. However, all the production, export and import of the mercury lamp have been prohibited since 2021 by the Minamata Convention on Mercury, and substitutes of the lamps are required. In this study, the LED lamps with high resistance against exposure to the irradiation and the chemicals are developed for a substitute of the mercury lamp. As the results, newly developed high resistance LED lamps can be operated continuously for more than 20 years under the environment in the respect of the irradiation resistance. Use of the LED lamps will reduce the operational cost and the amount of wastes of the facility. Practical demonstration of the lamps in the hot-cells of the CPF will be performed in near future. lamps will reduce the operational cost and the amount of wastes of the facility.
