Times Cited Count:7 Percentile:39.23(Materials Science, Ceramics)To investigate the crack propagation behavior of quasi-ductile composites, this paper aims to evaluate the fracture resistance by the single-edge notched-bend test and the double notch tensile test. With the preliminary analysis, a new methodology to determine the fracture resistance has been developed based on the non-linear fracture mechanics, separately discussing the effect of irreversible energies. By adopting this method to various SiC/SiC composites, (1) notch insensitivity, (2) no significant size effect, and (3) superior crack tolerance were identified for both test types, depending on the fiber/matrix interfacial bond strength.
