International Workshop on "Transparency Technology for Nonproliferation Cooperation in the Asia Pacific" held by The Japan Atomic Energy Agency on 20-22 February 2008 focused on identifying appropriate roles and functions for Transparency in addressing nonproliferation concerns associated with the use of nuclear energy, particularly in the East Asia region. The participants agreed that its usefulness ranges for verification and compliance with the Nonproliferation Treaty to building trust and confidence in the activities of the state and other stakeholders. In addition, they identified a need for further education among the professional community, public, operators, and regulators and also the education and cultivation of the next generation of nuclear energy experts. It was importantly noted that small, incremental, approaches and steps, both technical and non-technical, are needed for next steps toward increasing transparency, openness, and confidence building among all East Asia.

The annual nuclear data symposium, organized by the Nuclear Data Division of Atomic Energy Society of Japan (AESJ) was held at Ricotti, Tokai, on Nov. 20 and 21, 2008 in cooperation with Advanced Science Research Center of JAEA and under final support from North-Kanto Branch of AESJ. The symposium was devoted for discussions and presentations of research results in wide variety of fields related to nuclear data, including 2 tutorial talks. Talks as well as posters presented at the symposium aroused lively discussions among approximately 80 participants. This report contains 36 papers submitted from the talkers and poster presenters.

Geological Isolation Research and Development Directorate has now been developing a "next generation" knowledge management system (KMS) that would continuously support the disposal project and associated safety regulations. Work has been also ongoing on synthesizing the results of R&D for the first midterm plan in the style of "next generation" scientific reporting "CoolRep" which is strongly linked with KMS. In March 2010, a prototype of KMS and a status report (CoolRep H22) will be made publicly available. It is thus of much significance to promote stakeholder's understanding of KMS and CoolRep and have input from them at this timing in order to efficaciously proceed with the future work. To this end, the conference on "Progress in Development of JAEA Knowledge Management System" was held on 1st July 2009 in Tokyo. This report compiles presentation materials and comments/input to KMS and CoolRep from the stakeholders.

This report is the Proceedings of "the Fifteenth International Workshop on Ceramic Breeder Blanket Interactions" which was held as a workshop on ceramic breeders under the IEA Implementing Agreement on the Nuclear Technology of Fusion Reactors. This workshop was held in Sapporo, Japan on 3 and 4, September 2009. Twenty six participants from EU, Japan, India, Russia and USA attended the workshop. The scope of the workshop included evolutions in ceramic breeder blanket design, progress in ceramic breeder material development, irradiation testing, breeder material properties, out-of-pile pebble bed experiment, modeling of the thermal, mechanical and tritium transfer behavior of pebble beds and interfacing issues of solid breeder blanket development. By this workshop, advance of key technologies for solid breeder blanket development was shared among the participants. Also, desired direction of further investigation and development was recognized.
