Summary of the Meeting on the Interactions of MeV Energy Region Cluster Ions with Materials; February 20-21, 2003, JAERI, Takasaki, Japan
Research Committee for Frontier Radiation Application; Subcommittee for Future Plan for Beam Application
Studies of MeV energy cluster ion irradiation are scientifically and industrially a quite frontier field, and the door is just open. The investigation of interactions with substances, materials modifications, and development of surface analytical methods using MeV energy cluster ions are very exciting regions. Because the TIARA (Takasaki Ion Accelerators for Radiation Applications) is the only facility that MeV energy cluster ions are available in Japan, it is expected to propel those studies, and to explore the possibility as new ion beam. The first meeting on the interaction of MeV energy region cluster ions with materials was held on February 20-21, at JAERI Takasaki to discuss the status and the trend for MeV cluster experiments which were carried out at Takasaki. This report summarizes the contents of presentations made in the meeting.
