Shielding design aspects of SR beamlines for 3 and 8 GeV class synchrotron radiation facilities

Differences on shielding design of synchrotron radiation beamlines are discussed between the facilities of 3 GeV class and 8 GeV class by using SLAC SSRL and SPring-8 beamlines. The beamline shielding as well as the accelerator shielding depends on the stored electron energy, especially some characteristics depending on the stored energy are clarified in beamline shielding. These are the effect of build up, the effect of double scattering photons at branch beamlines, and the spread of gas bremsstrahlung.
