Theory of the Newcomb equation and its application in magnetohydrodynamic stability problems

Tokuda, Shinji

The Newcomb equation arising in magnetohydrodynamic stability problems for a tokamak plasma has regular singular poins that are rational surfaces. The Frobenius solution around the regular singular point plays important roles in various MHD problems. A numerical method is proposed which extracts, by using Legendre polynomials, the singular solution included in a solution for the eigenvalue problem associated with the Newcomb equation.
