The Fuel Sodium Interaction is now considered to be one of the important problems in the accident analysis for thefuel melt accident of sodium cooled fast breeder reactors. At FSI, heat will be transfered rapidly from the hot moltenfuel to the cold coolant causing the boiling of the sodium, and the large pressure will be generated in the reactor core. Many research works are now on the way for understanding these phenomena in the world. This work is aimed to make clear the fundamental aspects on the generation and propagation of pressure waves at FSI, and the simulation experiments were done using freon as the test fluid. Experimental apparatus consists of the test section with a glass tube at the top of it, SUS heater immersedin the freon at the test section, power source and recording system. The behaviors of freon and the pressure waves were investigated at the transient conditions when the SUS heater was heated rapidly within 50-100 msec. Moderate pressure by the boiling of freon continuing several
