Study on engineering technologies in the Mizunami underground research laboratory (the 2002 fiscal year)

Nobuto, Jun*; Noda, Masaru*; Toida, Masaru*; Kubota, Shigeru*

The Mizunami Underground Research Laboratory, which Japan Nuclear Cycle Development Institute (hereafter, JNC) plans to construct for expanding further the geoscientific researches being conducted at Tono Geoscience Center and the vicinity, consists of the surface facilities and the underground research facilities extending up to the depth of 1000m. This study is conducted to investigate engineering technologies related to the construction of the Underground Research Laboratory, since the construction of the laboratory started in fiscal 2002. Concretely, following four items were studied. (1)Study on the technologies for feeding back measurement results to the design and the construction scheme (2)Study on the technologies for securing the qualities of research and construction (3)Study on construction technologies to treat the outbreak of unexpected water inflow (4)Study on the influence of earthquakes on underground research facilities. The former three items are related to the construction technologies under the deep subterranean environment.
