Fuel bundle shearing test using shearing test apparatus (II)

Nakagawa, Rinshi; Ojima, Hisao; Hayashi, Shotaro

The present report describes the result of fuel bundle shearing test using shearing test apparatus (II) in the 2nd EDF to establish the adequate shearing system for FBR fuel recycling pilot plant. Main test items were as follows; (1)Obtain the method to get the fuel segments with constant length. (2)Get the characterization about the bundle-shear of FBR fuel by shearing machine. (3)Confirm the fuel segments loading system from the shearing machine to the dissolver via distributor and chute. The tests have been carried out with dummy fuel assemblies of Monju core, which were consisted of Al$$_{2}$$O$$_{3}$$ sintered pellets and stainless steel cladding tube. As the results, the following informations have been abtained. (1)The fuel segments with constant length could be obtained by only using a blade with special structure. Some modifications of the apparatus were not necessary. (2)It was obserbed that the open area portion of segment from plenum part shearing was nearly 0%, so that the method of sodium disactivation should be improved. And the final shearing part (about 20cm of plenum part) could not be recovered from the shearing apparatus and not be loaded to the dissolver. (3)Choped wrapping wire became an obstacle for lifting up the hull basket, because some pieces entered in the clearance between basket and barrel.
