Behavior of third phase formation in solvent extraction using CMPO (I)

not registered  ; not registered; not registered; Kawata, Tomio

Octyl(phenyl)-N,N-diisobutylcarbamoylmethylphosphine Oxide (O$$phi$$D[iB]CMPO) was developed to extract trivalent actinides and is able to extract Am and Cm from HLLW. But, CMPO is needed to be used with n-paraffin or tri-chloro ethylene as diluent and TBP as phase modifier. Particularly, to obtain high solvent loading third phase formation should be avoided. In this work, using 0.2M CMPO and 1.0M TBP diluted with n-dodecane as solvent, each dependency on temperature and TBP concentration for extraction of nitric acid, Nd or Nd with U was studied. When using CMPO as extractant, even in the case of extraction of nitric acid, third phase formation was found. But we found that if we select condition of temperature and/or TBP concentration carefully, concentrated solution may be processed. And in the system of extraction of two elements, complexes didn't interact each other.
