Utilizing Point Processes to Model Vent Alignments and Shifts in the Higashi-Izu Monogenetic Volcano Group, Japan

Martin, A. J.; Yusa, Yasuhisa; Umeda, Koji

Modeling the future spatial patterns of monogenetic volcanoes is problematic because new vents usually develop in regions where previous vents did not exist. Other characteristics include: (1) the tendency to cluster; (2) the formation of vent alignments and (3) shifts in new alignment location with time. In this paper an improved probabilistic model based on point processes is proposed that is more sensitive to (2) and (3) than pervious models developed so far.
