Determination of the$$^{99}$$Tc (Thermal n, Gamma)$$^{100}$$Tc Reaction Cross Section from the Prompt Gamma-Ray Yields

Furutaka, Kazuyoshi  ; Harada, Hideo   ; Raman, S.*

Analyses were made of the prompt $$gamma$$ rays emitted in the thermal neutron capture reaction by $$^{99}$$Tc to determine the reaction cross section. From the obtained data, a partial decay scheme was constructed which consists of 88 $$gamma$$ rays and 36 bound states. Six $$gamma$$ rays were assigned as the transitions to the ground state of $$^{100}$$Tc. From the intensities of these six $$gamma$$ rays, a lower limit of the reaction cross section was obtained to be 21.37$$pm$$0.68b. Through a least-squres fit to the level energies, the neutron separation energy of $$^{100}$$Tc was determined as 6765.20$$pm$$0.04 keV. $$gamma$$ rays in $$^{100}$$Ru emitted following the beta- decay of the reaction product $$^{100}$$Tc were also analyzed. The inferred cross section is 22.8$$pm$$1.8b.
