Present statue of JT-60 NBI system and upgrade plan for JT-60 modification with superconducting device

Ikeda, Yoshitaka

The pulse extension up to 30 s has been done on JT-60U Positive ion-based NBI (P-NBI) system to study the high beta plasma for long pulse duration. The pulse of Negative ion-based NBI (N-NBI) has also been extended up to 25 s. Now, to contribute to ITER and DEMO, modification of JT-60U to a superconducting device (so called JT-60SA) has been planned by both parties of Japan and EU. The NBI system of JT-60SA is required to inject 34 MW for 100 s by using twelve P-NBI units (24 MW) and one N-NBI unit (10 MW). The engineering design has been progressed on the base of the long pulse operation of 30 s. Present statue of JT-60 NBI system and upgrade plan for JT-60SA will be presented.
