Radiation reaction effects in ultrahigh irradiance laser pulse interactions with multiple electrons

Koga, J. K.; Yamagiwa, Mitsuru

When ultrahigh irradiance laser pulses interact with high energy electrons, the emission of radiation from these electrons can significantly effect the motion of the electrons themselves. We directly solve the interaction between multiple electrons numerically, which allows an accurate description of the dynamics. The fields acting on the electrons include the laser field and the Lienard-Wiechert field contribution from the other electrons. We will present results where the radiation reaction force is calculated by retaining the time histories of the higher order derivatives in both time and space of all the fields.
