Development status on hydrogen production technology using high-temperature gas-cooled reactor at JAEA

高温ガス炉を用いた水素製造技術のJAEAにおける開発状況

原子力機構では、原子力エネルギーの利用拡大に向けて、原子炉及び熱利用技術基盤の確立のため、大洗研究開発センターに建設されたHTTRを用いて、高温ガス炉及び水素製造等の熱利用に関する研究開発を進めている。2004年には950$$^{circ}$$Cの原子炉出口温度をHTTRで達成し、また、ISプロセスによる1週間の連続水素製造に成功した。2020年以降の商用高温ガス炉水素製造システムの実現に向け、原子力機構は、ISプロセスパイロット試験、HTTR-ISシステム試験を計画している。本報告では、HTTR計画の概要と現状について述べる。

To enhance nuclear energy application to heat process industries, the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) has continued extensive efforts for development of hydrogen production system using the nuclear heat from HTGR in the framework of the HTTR Project. The HTTR Project has the objectives of establishing both HTGR technology and heat utilization technology. In the HTTR constructed at the Oarai Research and Development Center of JAEA, The reactor outlet temperature of 950 $$^{circ}$$C was successfully achieved in April 2004. One-week continuous operation of the IS process was successfully demonstrated using a bench-scale apparatus with hydrogen production rate of 31 L/h. Further test using a pilot scale facility with greater hydrogen production rate of about 30 m$$^{3}$$/h is planned as the next milestone. JAEA plans to couple the IS Process to the HTTR. In the report, the overview of the HTTR project is given with emphasis on the hydrogen production system development.
