Even in the veterinary medicine, animal's survival time extends, and cancer becomes a main reason of the death. There are several therapeutic procedures for the cancer patients, it is expected the chance of the application of the radiation therapy will increase in the future. The purpose of this study is to evaluate about the radiation sensitivity of the canine spontaneous tumor cell lines as a basic research for the advanced radiation therapy in the veterinary medicine. Each cell was irradiated by X-ray (250 kVp, 0.8 Gy/min, LET 1.0 keV/$$mu$$m) and carbon beam (220 MeV, 6.0 Gy/min, LET 108 keV/$$mu$$m). After each given dose (range between 1$$sim$$8 Gy), cells were harvested and survival fractions were evaluated by the Clonogenic assay. The relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of carbon beams compared with X-rays was investigated by the each surviving fraction. The radiation sensitivity was H, F, and S in the high order. The differentiation of the sensitivity order was not observed, but a cell resisted to X-rays irradiation tended to show more sensitivity to carbon beam irradiation. All RBE were converged at 4, and there are several degree of relationship between the beam character, radiation sensitivity, and RBE.
