Monophotonic ionization of silybin in ethanol solutions by 248nm laser light; Identification of transient intermediates

It is demonstrated that silybin in ethanol solution is photoionized via a monophotonic process to give a solvated electron and a radical cation. Then the solvated electron reacts with SLB to form electron adduct SLB-H. The results suggest that the photolysis of flavonoid in ethanolic solutions can provide an efficient tool to study radical reactions of biomolecules with poor water-solubility.
