Coordination chemistry of uranium-thiocyanate complexes composing ionic liquids

Metal-containing ionic liquids such as [C$$_{n}$$mim][AlCl$$_{4}$$] and [C$$_{n}$$mim][FeCl$$_{4}$$], have been received much attention in synthetic, catalytic, electrochemical, magnetic application and so on. In the present study, we report the syntheses, and spectral properties to discuss the coordination geometries of uranyl isothiocyanate since no complex is known for ${it m}$ $$>$$ 3 in any solvents (${it m}$ is the number of coordinated ligands). All materials, [C$$_{4}$$mim]$$_{x}$$[U$$^{VI}$$O$$_{2}$$(NCS)$$_{x+2}$$(H$$_{2}$$O)$$_{3-x}$$](${it x}$ = 1 - 3), exhibited brilliant colors: wine red - crimson - orange. Also, the first thermochromism of actinide compounds were found.
