独立行政法人日本原子力研究開発機構は、「国の研究開発評価に関する大綱的指針」及び「文部科学省における研究及び開発に関する評価指針」、並びに原子力機構の「研究開発課題評価実施規程」等に基づき、「民間事業者の軽水炉再処理事業を支援するための研究開発」に関する中間評価を研究開発・評価委員会(次世代原子力システム/核燃料サイクル研究開発・評価委員会)に諮問した。これを受けて、次世代原子力システム/核燃料サイクル研究開発・評価委員会は、軽水炉再処理にかかわるこれまでの民間事業者への支援の状況や、東海再処理施設における今後当面の期間の研究開発計画について、おおむね妥当であると評価した。

Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) consulted the "Evaluation Committee of Research and Development (R&D) Activities for Advanced nuclear system / Nuclear fuel cycle technology" to assess the issue on "Research and development to support private reprocessing project of LWRs spent nuclear fuel" in accordance with the "General guideline for the evaluation of government R&D activities", the "Guideline for evaluation of R&D in Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT)" and the "Operational rule for evaluation of R&D activities" by JAEA. The committee assessed the current status of JAEA activities to support the private reprocessing project and the near term R&D program at Tokai Reprocessing Plant and concluded that they are practically reasonable.
