Crystal-grain refinement of materials under an ultra-strong gravitational field

超重力場下における結晶の微細化

本研究では、Bi$$_{70}$$Sb$$_{30}$$合金に関しての超重力処理による結晶の微細化について、微細化の状態と微細化条件について調べた。数mmから数十mmの大きな結晶粒を持つバルク試料を重力場下に置くと、まず最初に微細化が起こり、その後、原子の沈降による濃度変化に伴って結晶成長が起こることがわかった。また、200$$^{circ}$$Cにて超重力処理を施す場合、結晶の微細化を起すことのできる最低重力加速度と時間条件はそれぞれ16万G,10時間であることがわかった。

In this study, we investigate the crystalline states and conditions for the grain-refinement of Bi$$_{70}$$Sb$$_{30}$$ alloy. It was considered under an ultra strong gravity field, the crystals were fine-grained from the primary grain sizes of several mm to several tens of mm, and the crystal growth followed with formation of graded-composition structure due to sedimentation of atoms along the direction of gravity. It was found that for the crystal-grain refinement in Bi$$_{70}$$Sb$$_{30}$$ alloy the minimum gravitational field and the minimum time duration were at least 160,000 G and 10 hours, respectively at about 200 $$^{circ}$$C.
