Collection of significant metals with graft adsorbent; Necessary security of nonproduced significant metals in Japan
Tamada, Masao
There are ultra low concentrations of uranium and scandium in seawater and hot spring water, respectively. Metal adsorbents prepared by radiating-induced graft polymerization are suitable for the metal collections since their handlings are easy. The uranium of 1 kg was recovered from the seawater at Mutsu area. Then, mooring system of braid type adsorbent was developed to reduce the recovery cost of uranium from seawater. The uranium spot price went up recently, and the uranium recovery from seawater attracts the attention. Experimental collection of scandium from the hot spring water has been carried out at Kusatsu Onsen in Gunma prefecture. The development of scandium collection technology will induce its new versatile usages.
