Development of FR fuel cycle in Japan, 4; Consideration of transition from LWR-cycle to FR-cycle

Sato, Fuminori ; Nakamura, Hirofumi

In feasibility study on commercialized fast reactor cycle systems (FS) in Japan, "balanced FBR stage" in which plutonium generated in FBR fuel is reprocessed and recycled to the FBR and constant electric power is produced, is assumes. But actually, when the first commercial FBR is introduced, there are a lot of conventional light-water reactors which have duration time of 60 years. So it is considered that there is transition time about 60 years from LWR-cycle to FR-cycle. In this study situation of the transition time is studied quantitatively using long term mass-balance code based on reactor burnup calculation. Collaterally reprocessing technologies developed in Japan and other countries is investigated to consider candidate reprocessing technology at the transition time. Using these results outline of transition time and reprocessing plant is discussed.
