Resonant inelastic X-ray scattering study of stripe-ordered La$$_{5/3}$$Sr$$_{1/3}$$NiO$$_{4}$$ at the Ni-K Edge

It is known that the in-gap band appears when charge carriers are doped into the charge-transfer-type Mott insulators. A possible origin of the in-gap band has been proposed by Homes et al. on the basis of the charge stripes which have been comprehensively studied by neutron scattering. Motivated by this proposal, we have performed a resonant inelastic X-ray scattering experiment at the Ni-K edge on La$$_{5/3}$$Sr$$_{1/3}$$NiO$$_{4}$$ where a robust charge stripe order has been characterized. In this talk, we will report the results of this experiment showing that an additional charge excitation appears at the momentum transfer corresponding to the charge stripe spacing.
