Effect of dispersion with carbon nanofiber on thermal and mechanical properties of SiC/SiC composites

Taguchi, Tomitsugu; Hasegawa, Yoshio*; Yamamoto, Hiroyuki; Shamoto, Shinichi

The effect of dispersion with carbon nanofiber (CNF) on porosity, thermal and mechanical properties of SiC/SiC composites were investigated. The SiC/SiC composites dispersed with CNF have lower porosity compared to those without CNF. On the other hand, the bending strength of SiC/SiC composites with CNF was slightly decreased compared to that without CNF. The thermal conductivity of SiC/SiC composites with CNF was twice as high as that without CNF. The reason is considered that the number of pore larger than 100 $$mu$$m existing among the SiC fiber bundles was decreased by dispersing CNF in SiC/SiC composites.
