Neutron-beam focusing with a large-m supermirror on a high-precision ellipsoidal surface

Development of a neutron focusing mirror, which combines high-Q supermirror with ultra high-precision substrates, will be presented. In recent years, Maruyama et al. have developed high-Q supermirror using an ion-beam sputtering instrument. In the other hand, Yamamura et al. have developed ultra-precise surface shaping techniques using Numerically Controlled Local Wet Etching (NC-LWE) and Plasma CVM. Combining these techniques enables us to develop high-performance focusing mirrors for neutrons with larger acceptance angles. Test results of an m=4 supermirror on ellipsoidal surface of synthetic quartz will be shown in the presentation.
