平成21年1月15日、ITER超伝導導体製作の契約メーカーである新日鉄エンジニアリングの若松工場において、導体製作工場の安全祈願祭及び起工式が執り行われ、導体製作開始に向けて一歩踏み出した。原子力機構は、政府からの国内機関の指名を受け、国際機関であるITER機構への我が国からの職員の派遣に関する支援活動を行っている。その一環として、ITER機構職員公募の説明会を行っているが、ITER機構職員公募の一層の周知を図るために、米国での説明会を行うとともに、産業技術総合研究所と連携し説明会を開催した。

On 15 January 2009, the ground breaking ceremony for the jacketing fabrication works of ITER conductors was held on Wakamatsu works, Nippon Steel Engineering Corp as supplier of ITER conductor fabrication for its initiation of the construction and safe operation. It is great step for the procurement of ITER conductor. JAEA is supporting the staffing of ITER Organization by Japanese according to assignment by the Government of Japan. The briefing sessions have been held by JAEA as the supporting activities. The briefing session were held on the U.S cooperation with Washington office and held on Tsukuba cooperation with AIST. These were good opportunity for the PR for the ITER project and its organization.
