Proposal of rock mass behavior classification based on convergence measurement in shaft sinking through sedimentary soft rocks
Tsusaka, Kimikazu
Japan Atomic Energy Agency has been excavating deep shafts through sedimentary soft rocks in Horonobe. From the viewpoint of the observational construction, the site engineers need a practical guide to evaluate the field measurements conducted with the shaft sinking. The author proposed a rock mass behavior classification for the results from convergence measurement. It consists of four categories based on the relationship between initial deformation rate, observed deformation and the ratio of the modulus of elasticity of rock mass to the initial stress. The classification is useful to predict the deformation of rock mass caused by excavation work at the earlier stage.
