A New method for the quantitative analysis of the scale and composition of nanosized oxide in 9Cr-ODS steel

The size and number density of nano-oxide particles in 9Cr-ODS steels with different concentrations of excess O, Ti and W are quantitatively determined using Small-angle neutron (SANS) and X-ray scattering (SAXS). Using the difference of the SANS and SAXS intensity in absolute units, the technique called the "alloy contrast variation (ACV) method" has been used to determine the compositions of the nano-oxide precipitates. The results indicate that the finest size and highest number density of nano-oxide particles is obtained by suppressing the amount of excess O and increasing the amount of Ti. The ACV method indicates that the finest nano-oxide has a chemical composition close to Y$$_{2}$$Ti$$_{2}$$O$$_{7}$$.
