Development of an advanced fabrication process; Oxidation of MOX raw powders and sintering property of the oxidized powders

Segawa, Tomoomi

Oxidation behavior of MOX raw powders and sintering property of the pellets fabricated with oxidized powders were studied. Oxidation and reduction of M$$_{3}$$O$$_{8}$$ phase in oxidized powders and the influence of M$$_{3}$$O$$_{8}$$ phase on MOX pellets were evaluated. It was observed that the oxidation process had two steps. In the first oxidation step, the oxidation proceeds by the precipitation of M$$_{4}$$O$$_{9}$$ phase. In the second oxidation step, M$$_{3}$$O$$_{8}$$ phase precipitated. There were some cracks in the pellets fabricated with the powders containing M$$_{3}$$O$$_{8}$$ phase, but there were no cracks in the pellets fabricated with the powders free from M$$_{3}$$O$$_{8}$$ phase.
