Order-disorder transition of nanocomposites; Pd nanoparticles in polystyrene-block-polyisoprene microdomain templates

Zhao, Y.; Saijo, Kenji*; Takenaka, Mikihito*; Koizumi, Satoshi; Hashimoto, Takeji

The order-disorder transition behavior of the nanocomposites, composed of PS-b-PI symmetric block copolymer and the Pd nanoparticles, was studied in situ by the SAXS measurements. The presence of Pd particles was found to decrease TODT, broaden the transition temperature window and decrease the spacing in the ordered state. These changes should be attributed to the less stable ordered phase with the incorporation of particles, because of the large interface to volume ratio and a large distortion of chain conformations of the polymer.
