Change in compressibility of M$$^{3+}$$OOH oxyhydroxide at high pressure

Sano, Asami   ; Yagi, Takehiko*; Kagi, Hiroyuki*; Nagai, Takaya*; Komatsu, Kazuki*

Applying pressure to linear hydrogen bond induces the decrease of O...O distances and the formation of a strong hydrogen bond. InOOH type M$$^{3+}$$OOH (M = Al, Cr, Fe, Ga...) with distorted rutile type structure is one of the densest polymorph among oxyhydroxide, and has a strong hydrogen bond even at ambient conditions. In $$delta$$-AlOOH, theoretical studies have predicted that a symmetric hydrogen bond would be formed at high pressure. To investigate experimentally the symmetrization in MOOH oxyhydroxide, we conducted (1) neutron diffraction experiment of $$delta$$-AlOOD and (2) compression experiment on various M$$^{3+}$$OOH oxyhydroxide (M = Al, Ga, In, Cr). Combining these results, I will discuss the relation between the change in compression behavior of M$$^{3+}$$OOH and the symmetrization of hydrogen bond.
