金属燃料を用いた高速炉は、酸化物燃料炉と比べ良好な炉心特性を示すものの、過酷事象(ULOF)における熱的条件が厳しくなる。本報では、ガスプレナムを従来の上部設置型から下部設置型とした場合の炉心概念及び過渡特性について検討した。炉特性向上は限定的な一方、SASS切離し時間が大きく短縮され、ULOF事象緩和に有効である。

A metal fuel core has specific features, in comparison with a mixed oxide fuel core, on higher heavy metal density, harder neutron spectrum, and more efficient neutron utilization, although temperatures of coolant, cladding and fuel rapidly increase nearly their constraints under Unprotected Loss-Of-Flow event (ULOF). In this research, characteristics and performances of metal fuel cores, using a novel concept on metal fuel configuration: using lower gas plenum in fuel pins, are evaluated through reactor core design studies and transient analyses on ULOF conditions.
