Radiation protection methodologies concerned to individual monitoring, workplace monitoring and environmental monitoring in nuclear fuel facilities have been developed and applied to facilities in NCL of JAEA over 40 years. External exposure to photon, beta-ray and neutron and internal exposure to alpha emitter are important issue for radiation protection in these facilities. Airborne monitoring, surface contamination monitoring to alpha emitters and beta/photon emitters are also essential to workplace monitoring to avoid internal contamination of the personnel. Criticality accident alarm system developed by JAEA has been proven through the application to the facilities for long time. Centralized area monitoring system has been effective for emergency situation. Air and liquid effluents from the facilities are monitored by continuous monitors or sampling methods to comply with regulations.
