Ferromagnetic Josephson resonance

Maekawa, Sadamichi

In a superconductor/ ferromagnet/ supereconductor (SC/ FM/ SC) Josephson junction, the coupling between the electromagnetic field and the phase dynamics of the superconducting wave function induces the spin waves. We report here that in the junction, a magnetic resonace of frequency ws appears as a depression in the current (I) - voltage (V) curve of the Josephson junction when hws = 2 eV. In the spintronics context, the ferromagnetic Josephson resonance is a photon-free FMR on a nano-magnet, which would be unfeasible with standard FMR techniques and illustrate a new method for study of spin dynamics.
