Estimation of production yield of $$^{99}$$Mo for medical use using neutrons from $$^{rm{nat}}$$C($$d$$,$$n$$) at $$E$$$$_{rm d}$$ = 40 MeV

Minato, Futoshi   ; Nagai, Yasuki

We have estimated the production yield of $$^{99}$$Mo by $$^{100}$$Mo($$n$$,$$2n$$)$$^{99}$$Mo using neutrons produced by bombarding a natural carbon target $$^{rm{nat}}$$C with 40 MeV 5mA deuterons. We used the latest data on angular and energy distributions of neutrons from $$^{rm{nat}}$$C($$d$$,$$n$$) and the evaluated cross section of $$^{100}$$Mo($$n$$,$$2n$$)$$^{99}$$Mo given in the Japanese Evaluated Nuclear Data Library to estimate the $$^{99}$$Mo yield. The $$^{99}$$Mo yield was given with a different distance between a carbon target position and a $$^{100}$$Mo sample position, and with a different $$^{100}$$Mo sample radius and thickness. We obtained typically 7.1 TBq activity of $$^{99}$$Mo at the end of neutron irradiation for two days for a $$^{100}$$Mo sample (250 g).
