New technique for inelastic neutron scattering measurement demonstrated on the chopper spectrometer 4SEASONS at J-PARC

In order to increase the measurement efficiency in inelastic neutron scattering, a so-called repetition rate multiplication (RRM) method was proposed for a time-of-flight spectrometer at a pulsed source. Recently, we succeeded in performing a multiple-incident energy measurement by this technique on a single crystal sample on a Fermi-chopper spectrometer 4SEASONS, which was newly developed at Japan Proton Accelerator Research Complex (J-PARC) and started its operation very recently. It was the first demonstration of the new technique by a Fermi-chopper spectrometer, and may be the first example to show the real potential of the technique. The multiple-incident energy measurement is now commonly performed on 4SEASONS. In this talk, we show how we realize the RRM method and how it is useful with some examples obtained on the spectrometer.
