Hydrogenation process of aluminum under high pressure and high temperature

Saito, Hiroyuki; Machida, Akihiko; Katayama, Yoshinori; Aoki, Katsutoshi

Aluminum hydride (AlH$$_{3}$$) is considered as a promising hydrogen storage material due to its high gravimetric (10 wt.%) and volumetric (148 kg/m$$^{3}$$) hydrogen contents. AlH$$_{3}$$ has been synthesized by an organometallic synthesis route. Development of efficient synthesis route is focused in ongoing research to use AlH$$_{3}$$ as a practical hydrogen storage material. Here, we have realized hydrogenation reaction of aluminum under high pressure and high temperature, and have been investigating the reaction mechanism. Such fundamental study would provide us with information to help develop new synthesis route of AlH$$_{3}$$.
