コメのカドミウム汚染問題へのRIイメージング技術を用いた取り組み

原子力による環境問題への貢献はエネルギー分野に限らない。我が国ではカドミウムによる農地の汚染、特に主食であるコメの汚染が重大な問題となっている。われわれは、ポジトロンイメージング技術を利用して、イネにカドミウムが取りこまれ、コメに蓄積する様子を画像化し、その過程を定量的に解析した。この結果を利用して、現在、汚染土壌を浄化する植物の開発に取り組んでいる。

Atomic energy contributes to environmental conservation with radiation applications as well as nuclear power. Contamination of rice grain by cadmium is one of the major environmental and agricultural problems in Japan. Our group has been elucidating the process of cadmium movement from the soil to the rice grain through the living rice plant using positron-emitting tracer imaging system (PETIS). Based on the results, now we are starting to develop a crop for decontamination of the soil.
