Pt-L3 resonant inelastic X-ray scattering on catalytic materials

Jarrige, I.; Matsumura, Daiju   ; Ishii, Kenji; Yoshida, Masahiro; Mizuki, Junichiro; Nishihata, Yasuo

Platinum is the most active catalyst, and as such is widely employed in automotive catalytic converters. We here report on the first use of RIXS at the Pt-L3 edge on catalytic and reference materials. RIXS spectra were measured on a foil of Pt metal, PtO$$_{2}$$ powder, and Pt and PtO$$_{2}$$ nanoparticles impregnated on Al$$_{2}$$O$$_{3}$$ powder, as a function of the incident energy across the Pt-L3 edge. The Raman features are all interpreted in terms of electron-hole excitations, dd excitations for Pt and dd excitations and charge transfer excitation from the occupied O 2p to the unoccupied Pt d states for PtO$$_{2}$$.
