RIXS on Pt catalytic materials

Platinum is the most active catalyst, and as such is widely employed in automotive catalytic converters. RIXS spectra were measured on a foil of Pt metal, PtO powder, and Pt and PtO nanoparticles impregnated on AlO powder, as a function of the incident energy across the Pt-L3 edge. The Raman features are all interpreted in terms of electron-hole excitations, dd excitations and charge transfer excitation from the occupied O 2p to the unoccupied Pt d states.
