Microstructure evolution on stainless overlay cladding, made by electroslag and submerged arc welding, of reactor pressure vessel was quantitatively investigated by means of three-dimensional local electrode atom probe (3DAP). The cladding material was thermally-aged at 400 C for 10,000 h. In ferrite phases, Cr concentration fluctuation, which was arisen through a spinodal decomposition, observed in as-received material was progressed and Ni, Si, and Mn concentration fluctuation was observed after the ageing in both the materials. In addition, correlations of the fluctuations of these elements disagreed between the aged and the neutron-irradiated materials, indicating effects via different mechanisms on degradation of the claddings.
