The compacted bentonite is exposed to high temperature in the repositories of high-level radioactive waste (HLW) due to the heat generated by the decay of radionuclides. The retention properties of bentonite might be altered by the exposure to high temperature. In this study, sorption and diffusion experiments were performed on the MX-80 bentonite material originating from Alternative Buffer Material (ABM) project, which had been exposed to temperatures up to 140$$^{circ}$$C for 2 years.
