Effect of ion beam irradiation for ${it Asclepias}$ species

Kobayashi, Nobuo*; Sasaki, Shinichiro*; Tasaki, Keisuke*; Nakatsuka, Akira*; Nozawa, Shigeki; Hase, Yoshihiro; Narumi, Issei

${it Asclepias}$ is one of the perennial ornamentals native to Central America, using for cutting, potting and bed flowers. To obtain flower and/or plant form mutation, ${it Asclepias}$ seeds were irradiated with ion beams. Seed germination rate decreased over 100 Gy and any seeds could not germinate at 150 Gy. Survival rate of seedlings decreased below 50% at 50 Gy. In the case of ${it Asclepias}$ seeds, irradiation of 50 to 200 Gy is estimated to be optimal to generate mutants.
