In plastic forming like forging of high carbon steel, cementite spheroidization heat treatment is used for softening to guarantee ductility of raw material. During the process, steel is kept at high temperature for a long time and lamellar cementite is changed to spheroidized cementite, which results in a distribution of cementite particles of different size throughout the ferrite matrix. In order to shorten the heat treatment time and give a detail explanation on the pearlite spheroidization, SANS and dilatometry were employed to investigate microstructure during annealing process for a bulky pearlite steel in this study.
