Experimental investigation of baryon-baryon interaction through $$Sigma$$p scattering at J-PARC

Honda, Ryotaro; Imai, Kenichi

It is natural to be consider that quark level interaction for nuclear force because that is based on strong interaction. Quark Pauli effect is expected as a candidate for origin of a strong repulsive core of nuclear force in a short range. $$Sigma^{+}$$p scattering is a good probe to approach quark Pauli effect. Several experiments were performed at KEK PS in past, however, the statistics was still poor. Hyperon-nucleon scattering is difficult experimentally due to the short life time of hyperons. In J-PARC E40, we determine a phase shift of $${}^{3}S_{1}$$ of $$Sigma^{+}$$p scattering with 20% accuracy. New detectors, scintillation fiber trackers, are under development to obtain sufficient statistics. In this conference I will talk about physics in E40, a new experimental method, developments and status of a J-PARC accelerator.
